About Us

Our daily routine in the Nursery provides stimulating activities within a secure and happy setting geared to the individual needs of the children.

Coumes Spring is registered with Ofsted to provide Nursery Education places through the Nursery Grant scheme, available to 3 & 4 year old children in Sheffield. We also offer places to eligible families for the 30 hours extended entitlement funding. More information is available regarding this on our parent information page. We also take children eligible for 2 year old free early learning.

The Out of School Club and Holiday PlayScheme (which are also known as the Kingfisher Club) provide the facilities for children to relax, have fun, pursue hobbies and meet friends in a safe environment.

Coumes Spring Children’s Centre is situated in a converted separate classroom building in the grounds of Oughtibridge School but is an independent venture. The building is light, airy and was originally purpose-built for children. The conversion has allowed the addition of a kitchen, an entrance lobby and office. Quality furniture and equipment is provided for early learning, including imaginative and adventure play, construction, creative activities, co-operative play, science and investigation, maths skills, language and literacy. An additional building provides a separate area where differing age groups of children can take part in small group activities at different times of the day, especially geared to their needs.

Outside there are two separate play areas. The babies’ play area has direct access from the baby room and includes wooden decking with a special, soft astro turf lawn with safety rubber cushioning underneath. The older children’s play area has direct access from the two play rooms, is totally enclosed by a 5′ fence and comprises a safety surface (rubber) and a grassed area. The outdoor play equipment includes pedal bikes, sit and ride toys, bats, balls, basketball net, climbing apparatus, sand, water etc.. In addition to this, outdoor activities are provided which further extend children’s learning experiences through imaginary play. There is a fenced garden where children can grow their own fruit and vegetables.

Freshly cooked hot lunches are provided on request from Oughtibridge school kitchen during the school terms (vegetarian options available), alternatively children can bring a packed lunch. Healthy snacks are provided through the day.

Keeping parents fully informed about their children’s time at nursery is very important to us. Each child is allocated a Key person who helps them to settle in, monitors their progress and is on hand for parents to chat to. We also use Tapestry, an interactive online journal, to share children’s milestones. Parents can use it to tell their child’s key person about the things that their child has been doing at home and to see the observations that staff make in nursery.  Of course, if parents prefer we can use paper journals instead.

SNOW – If snow is causing disruption to local transport we will either be closed or restricting our service to parents who are them selves travelling to work or attending urgent appointments.
